Changes to when we publish influenza and RSV data

We are changing how often we publish our influenza and RSV data. From 29 May, we will update metrics for both influenza and RSV every 2 weeks instead of weekly. We will resume weekly updates in October this year.

Rationale

The number of Lead Exposure in Children Surveillance System (LEICSS) cases reported across England. This is to highlight regional differences in case identification and reporting over time, offering insights into geographical variation in elevated blood lead exposure in children.

Definition

This metric illustrates the cases in England from 2015 to 2023 by region.

Methodology

The LEICSS case reported by each UKHSA region is allocated according to the postcode of the residence.

Caveats

These data are collected from a passive surveillance system therefore represent an underestimation of lead exposure in children in England. The geographical variation in the data is more likely to represent variation in case identification rather than reflecting true regional variation in lead exposure in the population.
