Childhood vaccination coverage
Last updated on Thursday, 28 August 2025 at 04:00pm
Recent system and methodology changes mean that coverage in London may be underestimated for some vaccines. Decreases in coverage should not be used in isolation as indicators of vaccination performance or public health action. More information.
This page presents annual childhood vaccination coverage statistics for local authorities (LA) in England, Regions in England and countries of the UK. Data presented here supplements the annual report for the cover of vaccinations evaluated rapidly (COVER) programme.
The data reflects vaccination coverage by 12 months of age, 24 months of age and 5 years of age, not the age at the time of vaccination.
System changes in 14 local authorities in London earlier this year and changes to the way multiple dose courses are calculated mean that the coverage in London for some vaccines, particularly the pre-school 4-in-1 booster and MMR2 is likely to be underestimated. Reported falls in coverage in these vaccines in the current year should not be used in isolation for local vaccination performance management or to direct public health action.
More information on methodology and data sources can be found in our metrics documentation.
Local authority coverage map
Use the map below to explore childhood vaccination coverage for upper tier local authorities across England for a selected reporting year.
Disclosure controls are applied by combining pairs of local authorities where eligible populations are small.
Numbers for the Isles of Scilly are combined with and reported as Cornwall.
Numbers for the City of London are combined with and reported as Hackney.
Numbers for Rutland are combined with and reported as Leicestershire.
Local authority boundary change over time.
In 2021, Northamptonshire was split into North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire. Each of the new local authorities are displayed as normal for years 2021-2022 onwards. However, it is not possible to display data for either North or West Northamptonshire for prior years.
In 2021, Cumbria was split into Cumberland, and Westmorland and Furness. However, these areas submit aggregated vaccination data together as ‘Cumbria’. On a map, combined data is presented for both local authorities.
Filter childhood vaccination data
Use the filters below to explore the data in more detail. Coverage charts and time series charts will appear below based on your selection. A separate set of charts is created for each selected geography.
Coverage statistics
Time series
Annual immunisation coverage is calculated and reported by financial year (1 April to 31 March). In time series data, coverage statistics for a given year are tied to the end of respective financial year. For example, annual coverage for the 2022-2023 reporting year is represented by the date 31 March 2023.
In Q2 2020-2021 the vaccine schedule changed for the pneumococcal vaccine. Coverage for this reporting year cannot be calculated. This may also affect comparability with previous years.
