COVID-19 Archive data download
Last updated on Friday, 7 March 2025 at 04:16pm
You can download all the historic data from the decommissioned Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK dashboard on this page by clicking the Download link.
This is useful if you want to analyse the data using your own tools.
The full dataset is 1.4 GB. You may find it slow to download on slower internet connections.
Missing data for October 2020 from files presented by LTLA
Cases data: October 2020 data is missing from most files presented by LTLA with the exception of the following:
- LTLA files on new cases, new first episodes and new reinfections presented by specimen date and age demographics all include complete data for October 2020. These filenames all end with ‘BySpecimenDateAgeDemographics_areas_LETTER’
- October 2020 data has been imputed using available data currently held in internal UKHSA systems for the following files: ltla_newCasesBySpecimenDate, ltla_cumCasesBySpecimenDate,and ltla_newCasesBySpecimenDateRollingRate ltla_uniqueCasePositivityBySpecimenDateRollingSum
Testing data: October 2020 data is missing from most files presented by LTLA with the exception of the following where October 2020 data has been imputed using available data held in internal UKHSA systems: ltla_uniqueCasePositivityBySpecimenDateRollingSum, ltla_uniquePeopleTestedBySpecimenDateRollingSum
Deaths data: October 2020 data is missing from all files presented by LTLA
Healthcare data: Files unaffected as reporting does not go down to LTLA level.
Vaccinations data: Files unaffected as reporting commenced from December 2020
Missing data for February 2021 from files presented by UTLA
Vaccinations data: February 2021 data is missing from all files on vaccinations by age demographics. The affected file names reference ‘UTLA_vaccinationsAgeDemographics_areas_LETTER’.
All other vaccination files presented by UTLA have the complete time series aggregated to UTLA level.
Files covering the period February 2021 on cases, deaths, healthcare, and testing are unaffected.
Other key caveats
It has not been possible to fully validate these archived datasets against the latest version of the decommissioned Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK dashboard. Further, it is possible that imputed cases and testing data for October 2020 may not align with the data previously presented in the decommissioned dashboard if any subsequent revisions have been made in the live datasets used to impute these missing values.
Data presented by ‘publish date’ is not a reliable indicator of trends over time since this represents the date on which data was first published and may include the publication date of a backlog of data or subsequent revisions to the data. Users are encouraged to use data by case and testing specimen date, death date and vaccination date to explore the historical data series more accurately.
Total numbers reported by Region, LTLA and UTLA may be lower than the national total for England. This is because it may not be possible to link data to a lower-level geography due to the complexities with address data. It means that data can be assigned to England, but not to a Region, LTLA or UTLA, for example.
