vaccinations
API name

Rationale

This metric shows the percentage of all eligible infants receiving a hepatitis B vaccination within 24 hours after birth in England. Targeted neonatal birth dose vaccination (within 24 hours) is recommended as part of the selective vaccination programme for babies born to women identified as having hepatitis B through antenatal screening

Definition

The proportion of all newborn babies born to women identified as living with hepatitis B who receive the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.

Methodology

This metric is reported by the Integrated Screening Outcomes Surveillance Service (ISOSS). The denominator is the number of women identified as living with hepatitis B through antenatal screening each year. The numerator is the number of babies born to these women who receive a hepatitis B vaccination within 24 hours of birth.

Caveats

Accurate and timely recording of vaccination is essential for comparison.
